Richard currently plays a Gibson 137 electric guitar with a Line 6 digital amp, a Fender Precision (lite) bass, and two Yamaha nylon strung acoustics. His Eavestaff grand piano remains in London ..

The Light Activation is the band which put the colour into my musical mandala sketches. The sound is cruisy, latin-tinged guitar instrumentals, with the occasional song. We hit a groove, then we sit there. Our gigs often last four hours or more, and we are open to guest vocalists, didg players, percussion, flute or anyone else who feels the flow.

Its taken 3 years to find the right crew. First was Davide #1, a free-form acoustic guitarist who also runs the organic shop in Nimbin. We made a demo as a duo, called "Cerebral". Next came Tig, a left handed drummer who due to various physical constraints has an original style. He can go from doof to jazz to explosion in one song. Finally, after many attempts, the bass action is now provided by Davide #2, a fluid and solid player with a great musical ear. Just recently Paula from Uki has been adding some vocal flavours, as well as a rehearsal space.

We currently have about 18 tunes, including such numbers as "Directions to a Good Headspace", "Infinity Pool", "The New Sensual", "Electric Confetti", "Owls", "Rosie, Sister of Convenience", "Valentines to Gaia" and "Keep it Simple". Oh and "the new one" .. Our flyers are designed by the gorgeous Natascha at Babareki Beads in Uki.

The band play (activate?) under the radar in the halls, cafe's and community spaces of the Far North Coast hinterland, centering on the marvellous Sphinx Rock Cafe near Mount Burrell, where the sunday afternoon sessions allow the band to journey from ambient pulsing to psychedelic wig-out. and back! We started with a home stereo for amplification. Now we have our own PA & backdrops. We glide through space at our own tempo; light workers and trippers of the utopian vision, come check us out sometime. 2007 will see a Light Activation cd birth to the world.

UK Summer 2007 and i have renewed the collaboration with Andrea Soler, playing dates in Scotland and England as a duo, two nylon strung guitars and Andrea on the mic. Songs like Keep Driving, Fresh Cut Daisies and Washed Away from the original Billen demo are still in the set, accompanied by new material such as When There's No Meaning, Dragonfly, Things look Better in the Sunshine and Come Home. We are recording these tunes in early September in a studio in Poole, Dorset. Check Andrea's website and myspace for more ...

Channel Free is a loose collective based at the Mothership, Uki, NSW. They improvise ... no overdubs, what happens in the moment .. the most coherent and atmospheric find their way to the Phases cd series. The band are disciples of creation over replication. Since forming earlier in 2006 the band have played a few independently promoted gigs in the funky family halls of the far north coast.
